About Larry

Larry brings a wealth of experience as a public servant and engineer, having worked more than 26 years as an engineer for local municipalities. He graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor of engineering degree and became a Registered Professional Engineer in 1997. He continued coursework at the University of Akron in surveying which allowed him to also earn his Professional Surveyor license.

Larry held the positions of Assistant County Engineer and Chief Deputy County Engineer for four years before taking over as Portage County Engineer in May 2023. He is seeking your support to be retained as Portage County Engineer, and continue helping optimize departmental operations, and utilize taxpayer dollars effectively to maintain the health of the county’s bridges and roads.

A resident of Portage County for nearly thirty years, he and his wife Melissa have raised a family of four children, all graduates of Theodore Roosevelt High School, Stanton Middle School, and Longcoy Elementary. In his free time, Larry enjoys working for the Cleveland Browns as a ball boy, running long distances with his two dogs, and practicing his golf swing for his annual outing.

Larry has carried on the long-standing tradition of hosting an annual County Engineer golf outing fundraiser. His predecessor Michael A. “Mickey” Marozzi, started the tradition more than 30 years ago.

The event is a tremendous success at the beautiful Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna. Guido’s of Ravenna provides a wonderful lunch and Italian buffet dinner afterward.

What The Engineer Does

The mission of the County Engineer is outlined in Section 315.08 of the Ohio Revised Code: “The county engineer shall perform for the county all duties authorized or declared by law to be done by a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) or a registered Professional Surveyor (P.S.)”.

County Roads

All maintenance, repair, widening, resurfacing, reconstruction, and construction of roadways and bridges on the county highway system is the Engineer’s responsibility. This includes traffic control, safety, mowing, and snow removal on 368 Centerline Miles and 172 Bridges in the county.

Township Roads

The County Engineer is the Engineering advisor to the Township Trustees for the maintenance, repair, widening, resurfacing, and reconstruction of their highways.  All bridges on the Township Highway System that have a span greater than 10 feet are the responsibility of the County Engineer.

Municipal Roads

The County Engineer is responsible for the bridges that are of general and public utility, running into or through municipal corporations that are not on state highways.
